What is Ba Zi?

Ba Zi is the eight characters of your date of birth. A Chinese way of reading a life, refined over more than a thousand years, to understand your temperament, your natural strengths and your cycles.

A tool for those who had to decide

For centuries, the imperial court of China kept a state office with a single task: to calculate the right moment before acting. A treatise commissioned by the Qianlong Emperor and published in 1741 lists the undertakings concerned — among them the choice of generals, the training of troops and sending the army on campaign.

What the court calculated for the Empire, Ba Zi does for one person.

How it is read

Your date, time and place of birth give four pairs of signs: the four pillars, or eight characters (which is exactly what ba zi means). The calculation is fixed: any practitioner arrives at the same eight signs. What differs is the reading: mine runs to more than 40 pages, written for you alone.

And still very much alive

Ba Zi has never left Asian business circles. Since 1992, CLSA, a Hong Kong brokerage firm, has published a reading of each coming year according to the Chinese calendar, and the financial press picks it up every time.
